About the Blackbuck Antelope
Native to India, the blackbuck antelope are known for their long spiral paired horns on males. These beautiful animals exhibit a dark coat with white underbellies and white circles around the eyes. Mature Blackbuck males stand about 32 inches at the shoulder and can weigh as much as 100 pounds. The most distinguishing features of the male Blackbuck are the spiraling horns - they stand straight off of the head and can reach a length of 28 inches. The female animals are smaller, light brown, and without horns.
Blackbuck are incredibly fast runners, able to run in excess of 50 miles per hour. Blackbuck antelope tend to settle in groups of several females with one male in smaller territorial areas. The lifespan is typically 10-12 years with the oldest living Blackbuck recorded at 18 years.
