About the Carmen Mountain Whitetail Deer
Scientific Name: Odocoileus virginianus carminis
The Carmen Mountain white-tailed deer, sometimes called the runty deer, is a small deer native to Chihuahuan Desert of Trans-Pecos area of Mexico. Carmen Mountain deer are smaller than most other white-tail deer, following Bergmann's Rule that average size is greater for animals farther from the equator. The Carmen Mountain is not a Coues deer and is not a unique species, but rather a diminutive subspecies of whitetail deer. Carment Mountain deer are mostly found at elevations greater than 4500 feet where the pine-oak woodlands typically begin.
