Excellent Natural Paper Wasp Hornet Nest BK6219

This wonderfully representative piece is an authentic, natural "paper" wasp nest. If you know anything about wasps, you probably know that, unlike honey bees, they can sting multiple times and that there a numerous types of wasps (approximately 30,000 identified species, that create a variety of types of nests. This particular nest is a hornet nest (one of the 30,000 wasp species) constructed by hornets with paper-like material made from chewed wood fibers and saliva. This nest would typically house 100-1700 workers and a queen and be located in a tree or shrub or the eaves of a building. Wonderfully preserved, this piece has been given our quality rating of Excellent and would make an excellent addition to a natural history display.
